Meanwhile At The Zoo

Meanwhile, as I was hunting down Lego sculptures I got to enjoy a nice, fairly cool day at the zoo.

I started out in the riverbank aviary. These birds were just hanging out, probably waiting for the right person they could bless with their droppings.

Walking the boardwalk into Africa I saw all these birds nesting, a big rookery.

A closer shot of the Egrets nesting. It was a tad messing walking near here.

In all the years I had been coming to the zoo, and in the two previous trips to the zoo in 2017, I had always seen just two Rhinos.

This morning I saw a 3rd. Rhinos do not lap water like a dog, but it seems they just suck it up.

As I was walking I heard the lion roar and the lionesses were replying.

Over in the ape section this gorilla was dragging its blanket around with her.

A Wallaby. Every time I bring my grand daughter she wants to see them and this was the first time they were awake and active.

As I walked the path down towards the Trout River I spied a Manatee and headed down the zoo's dock to try and get a better view of it. By the time I got down the ramp to the dock it had moved further away from shore and dove. Instead I got to see these two derelict sailboats. Boats like these are a huge problem in Florida. It upsets me to see a boat neglected and abandoned.

Not far from the sailboats was this cabin cruiser. Did it sink during Hurricane Matthew or before?

The zoo has a large Bengal Tiger area. Two large pens with a tree-like overpass to connect them. The tigers are free to go between the two areas. This guy picked the overpass to take a nap. Must have gotten a good breeze up there.

Not far from the tigers, the Komodo Dragon was chilling in his tub.

This poor elephant was not being allowed out with the others. Maybe the females are in heat, I am not sure why, poor elephant.

After I hiked back to my car and started for home I saw a sign for Fort Yellow Bluff State Historic Site. I had seen the sign many times before but had never checked it out, today was the day.

As the sign says it is a historic site, not much else. There are several cannon barrels mounted on cement like this one.

And along the front edge there is this marker that tells about the area. Glad I never made a trip just to see this.

Stay tuned for my 5-In-1 Day post.
