Deja Vu
Moving, the word sends shudders through my body. The words that describe my dislike for moving include loathe, abhor, hate, despise and detest. Those are the clean ones. This upcoming move will be, my 6th in five and a half years.
When I moved into my previous apartment I loved the place. The floor plan with the sunken living room and fireplace, and separate dining area was nice. All tile floors were great for dogs that shed. It was close to shopping, highways, grocery stores and a few cheap eateries and a great Oriental/Caribbean market where I could find items to make Hawaiian meals.
Then the complex was sold and we got new management who didn't properly vet the new tenants. Gun shots and break ins became common. I saw women try to pick up "tricks" in the parking lot, drug deals going down in broad daylight, maintenance became non existent. It took me 9 months to get them to finally stop my tub from dripping. 9 months of constant mold and mildew in my tub. There was the night I took a shower and my hot water knob wouldn't turn off the water. I called the emergency number and no one responded or came because it was not going to flood my apartment. By my estimation close to 2,000 gallons of water was wasted because of lazy people.
I knew I had to get out. I contacted a condominium complex that I had wanted to move into back in 2015 but couldn't afford then and went to tour it again. I signed an application and was assigned a unit 4 months before the move in date. That's how I got to this point again. Since I am planning on this being my final move until I go into a nursing home or win the lottery I did a massive purge of stuff. Close to 50% of my furniture was given to the Salvation Army. I sold all my canning equipment and gave away my pickle crock. I took two car loads of stuff to Goodwill and threw out a lot more stuff. It got to the point where I just wanted it gone and I no longer had the patience to donate it or load it up to take it to Goodwill.
So here were are, roughly a month before the move. My kitchen,,,there is a lot to deal with here.
The guest bedroom was a nightmare of its own.
The living room became a dumping zone for packed boxes.
As did the dining room.
I spent a day, maybe two in the guest room. I reorganized all the packed boxes I had in there already. In one corner was stuff that the Salvation Army was going to pick up. I condensed and combined a lot of holiday stuff and went from 15 totes down to 11.
I then re-stacked everything. The goal was to keep as much stuff in the guest room as possible so that my main living areas wouldn't be too cluttered. I hate clutter.
This is the dining room the day before I loaded the U-Haul. I hired professional movers for the big and heavy stuff.
The living room with the rug gone.
And the kitchen.
When I moved down from North Carolina I had a 26-foot U-Haul packed to the max. The move into the place I was about to vacate I did 2 10-foot U-Haul truck loads and a pick up bed of stuff. This move I again rented a 10-foot truck and did one full load and one 1/4 full load. A big difference in the amount of stuff we moved.

It was a job. Glad I could help a little
