Charleston, SC

A few years back, before cancer and grandchildren my daughter, Patricia, and I enjoyed several "Girl's Weekends". We went to Palm Springs to see my mother, Sedona, St. Augustine, Stone Mountain, just to name a few. During a visit in May of 2014 she and I got talking about a girl's weekend. At supper that night Micheal decided that she and I had to take a trip in September.

After a lot of research we picked Charleston. When Micheal booked our hotel room he told the reservation clerk that "we would not cancel this trip for the world". It was decided that in accordance with Micheal's wishes we would go on our planned trip.

On September 19th I met my daughter in Charleston.

On Saturday morning the weather was a bit dicey so we opted to spend the morning at the aquarium. We had a great time. We grabbed some lunch and then headed out to Drayton Hall Plantation. Its the oldest unrestored plantation in the USA opened to the public. While waiting for our house tour we took a walk. I had just found out that Patricia was pregnant with my second grandchild. She just beams.

The well out front was neat.

Looking out the front windows of the house across the lawn.

Drayton Hall from the outside.

After Drayton Hall we enjoyed a nice meal at an Outback Steakhouse near the hotel. Sunday dawned clear and beautiful so we headed off to tour Fort Sumter. There was a map of the fort inside the visitor's center.

I spied a sailboat regatta as we were heading out to the fort.

The view of the fort as we get closer.

From Fort Sumter you can see another Civil War fort, I forget the name of it.

We found a cannon ball that is lodged in an inside wall of Fort Sumter.

It was a lovely day for a ferry ride back to the pier. From there I took Patricia back to her car at the hotel where we said our goodbyes until Thanksgiving.
