October Trip

Before we continue this journey I need to point out that at some point on September 14th my camera went back a year in time. Its true! Look at the year on the photos. I fixed the date after my Thanksgiving trip.

After Charleston the house felt too quiet. I hung around for a few days, put up all the Halloween decorations. Now what,,,nothing to do, no where to go. Wait, its October and soon Sugar Mountain will be decked out in her finest fall colors. Hey girls lets go visit Aunty Nan before she heads back to Florida for the winter.

I must stop and interject that I have some simply awesome, incredible friends. Nan, for example, will let me stop in for a visit any time I want, for just about as long as I want, the girls included. I have other equally wonderful friends like Tammy and Angela.

The night we arrived Kelekona put on her stern, don't mess with my mom, face. This is what 87 pounds of solid muscle looks like.

Liliuokalani just chilled out.

The leaves were starting to change. This tree was on the road into the local grocery store.

The next day was another beautiful fall day so we headed off down the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Nan and I were taking pictures.

The views from the Deerlick Gap overlook

The sign indicating the elevation.

In the distance, Table Rock mountain.

Since it was October and that means not only the leaves changing but it is also apple harvest time. We stopped at the Orchard at Altapass. Sad that they have to post signs like this one to protect the idiots from themselves.

Inside the store there were large bins of apples. Find what you want and grab a bag.

After the orchard we stopped at the Chestoa Overlook. Someone had thrown a bouquet of flowers over the edge. I then told Nan about the "double murder" that had occurred there many years ago. Maybe that had something to do with the flowers.

Our last stop was at Linville Falls. By now our lovely fall day was deteriorating rapidly. We made it past the gift shop to the river and had time for a quick photo op.

As Nan snapped this photo of me the rain started to fall so we headed back to the warmth of Nan's house for wine and dinner. I slept really well that night. Must have been all the fresh mountain air.
