Thanksgiving Part 1

Still continuing on our time journey we have now arrived at Thanksgiving week, 2014. This reminds me of Dickens' Christmas Carol.

Way back in March of 2014, Micheal and I decided that we would spend Thanksgiving with Patricia and the crew. Micheal challenged to me to find a condo where we could bring all 3 dogs and it would cost less per night than our staying in a hotel and putting the dogs in the kennel. It didn't take me too long to find a really cute 2 bedroom, 1 bath unit. It was maybe 7-10 minutes from my daughter's house and only 1-1/2 blocks off the ocean. We booked it for a week with plans of hijacking Miss Savannah on Tuesday and Wednesday before Thanksgiving.

Plans changed as they often do. Since Micheal had already paid for the condo I decided to go ahead and head down with the girls. But instead of taking Miss Savannah to the zoo or other places I made appointments and toured 9 apartment communities on Tuesday and Wednesday. What an undertaking, but at least I know where I want to move to when the time comes.

As I said previously, after Micheal passed I got strength from my children and this week was no different. My kids ROCK! I got into Jax on Monday, November 24th. I got unloaded and unpacked, walked the girls and headed off to have supper with my daughter, son in-law and granddaughter. On Wednesday my son CJ arrived from Georgia for two nights. We watched the DVD from the Duck Dynasty cruise that Micheal and I had taken. We actually made a scene from the last night. They got us dancing after the vow renewal ceremony. Lots of tears.

Thanksgiving morning CJ and I headed off to Patricia's to get the turkey stuffed and into the oven. We then headed out for a couple of beers and a great thin-crust pizza. Then we walked the girls and headed back to Patricia's for the main event.

Got to love my son!

CJ was having fun messing around with Rhonda. She is my ex-husband's fiancé.

Miss Savannah loves to be picked up by her feet and hung upside down. What a clown.

I got a photo of my two incredible children and myself.

CJ headed back to Decatur on Friday around 11 am and I then headed over to Patricia's where we put up all the outside Christmas decorations. Then we went and got her Christmas tree. Another night I slept really well.

Saturday, the 29th was a lovely day and I started getting stuff packed for the trip home. Late afternoon I headed over to pick up my friend Angie and we headed off to St Augustine for the Nights of Lights Festival. If you don't know about this you should Google it. Old St. Augustine gets lit by probably millions of little white lights. Its simply beautiful.

Angie and I did some shopping before dinner. This was taken in a small courtyard behind one of the shops on St. George Street.

We decided to have dinner at a small, and I do mean small place on St. George Street called Mi Casa. We ordered a Sangria and a Cuban sandwich. Both were really good. Angie was loving her sangria.

Looking up from my seat at our table. Dining is outside under umbrellas while being entertained by some very talented singers.

By the time we finished our sangria and our sandwiches it was dark and the lights were on. This is a grassy courtyard behind an old church.

Looking down St. George Street towards the town square.

The town square was really lit up.

Myself in front of the town Christmas tree. I'm on the right.

Angie in front of the town tree. She is on the right wearing the red jacket.

As we were heading back to the car we passed the Ancient City Brass Band. They were finishing up a performance of Christmas music.

This was my second trip to the Nights of Lights and Angie's first but I can guarantee it will not be our last. I bought each of us a wooden ornament with the year on it so we will remember our great time.
